How Can strep Throat Along With Swollen Tonsils Be Treated?

My doctor put me on an antibiotic for strep throat without seeing me based on the fact that both of my children were swabbed for strep and tested positive and I am now experiencing the same symptoms. I m on day three of taking my antibiotic and although I feel a little bit better I am noticing that my tonsils look black, swollen and they are covered with white puss. I can t understand why they would look black? I still have a terrible headache, no appetite, queasy, and an awful taste in my mouth that doesn t go away even after brushing my teeth. Any suggestions?

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hi,

The symptoms you are suffering suggest a throat infection probably with streptococcus since the infection is communicable.

However, since there is enlargement of tonsils despite taking antibiotics, I suggest you get a throat for identification of organism and drug sensitivity.

Drug sensitivity will exactly identify the organism responsible for a throat infection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
